Planning for Change
What to Expect?
During the planning process, together we will explore topics that impact future land use and development, including housing options, economic development, sustainability initiatives, transportation and walkability, infrastructure needs, and more!

Set the Stage: Our process begins by evaluating current progress and trends as well as advancement of our current plan.

Identify Priorities: Next we work with you and other community members and leaders to identify needed changes to future land use policy and vision and related priorities to set a strong plan of action and goals for the next 5-10 years.

Refine + Enhance: Finally we document and vet the plan with Brookhaven community members prior to transmitting the document for regional and state review. After these reviews, the Mayor and City Council consider plan adoption.

Adopt + Advance: After adoption, the City of Brookhaven, its partners, and you help make it a reality by implementing the plan.

Comprehensive Plan Role ​
The Comprehensive Plan is the City's long-term vision for the future, along with the policies and actions needed to achieve the vision. Brookhaven's Mayor and City Council use the Comprehensive Plan regularly to guide their decision-making when future land use changes (such as rezoning cases) are proposed. Additionally, the Comprehensive Plan provides a framework for City departments and external organizations to work together on advancing the goals and priorities identified by the community.

​Why We Are Updating Our Plan?
Brookhaven has accomplished much over the last 10 years, and we need to account for that and set a bold plan to continue to be a leader and advance. We will build upon the City's current future land use plan, while adjusting and enhancing based on Brookhaven accomplishments over the past five years, conditions that have changed in our region and nation, and community members' priorities for the future.

Additionally, the State of Georgia requires municipalities to update this long-range plan every five years to ensure that the plan vision and goals support current community priorities.
